Lake Tanganyika (Bujumbura, Burundi)
Next stop is Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, on the bank of Lake Tanganyika. The lake is the second largest in the world by volume, after Lake Baikal. It is part of the Great Rift Valley, which is a geographical trench that extends across the Middle East and Africa from Lebanon to Mozambique. Burundi is a small and densely populated country, and is also one of the world’s poorest. It also has the unfortunate title of being the world’s unhappiest country according to the World Happiness report. Our Sixteenth leg starts here and makes its way East for 693km into Tanzania to reach Tabora, our final destination.
